Coral Flower

Bjørn Rune Lie is a Norwegian artist based in a small fishing village in Fife, Scotland. With over 20 years of experience as an illustrator, he has worked with a wide range of international clients. However, personal work and experimentation have always been central to his practice. His “Flamboyant Flowers” series serves as a creative outlet for him to explore different processes and forms of mark-making, allowing him to get lost in the experimentation itself.

Although the finished pieces appear polished, Bjørn’s process is all about taking risks and embracing the unpredictable in his quest for happy accidents. Combining techniques such as paper marbling, balloon printing, rubber stamps, and pochoir stencilling, he creates strange, otherworldly botanical illustrations. These works draw inspiration from ceramic art, “natural curiosities” (especially the work of Ernst Haeckel and Albertus Seba), and the raw graphic style of Art Brut.
